“Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.”

“Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.” Alcoholics Anonymous (1939) · Chapter 5 · How It Works
Where it comes from

Step Eleven as printed in Chapter 5; Chapter 6 turns it into a concrete morning and evening practice.

Today’s reflection

“Improve” quietly concedes you already have contact — this Step is about signal strength. And the “praying only” clause retires the old prayer style: the cosmic order form, the list of outcomes. What’s left is two requests: show me, and give me the strength for it. Members who pray this way report a strange side effect — the day stops feeling like something happening to them.

Paying for treatment

Check coverage before choosing treatment.

Coverage depends on the plan, provider, service, and medical-necessity rules. Ask both the facility and your insurer about network status, authorization, and your expected cost.
